Increase in planning applications for basements

Analysis by Halifax of planning data for England, Scotland and Wales from January 2012 to December 2016 has found a 183% increase in planning applications for basement extensions, as people improve properties rather than move. The numbers have soared, particularly in London, from 1,084 in 2012 to 3,064 in 2016.
